Nocturne in E Minor was written by Frederic Chopin, a Polish pianist and composer during the Romantic era. Chopin lived from 1810 to 1849, and composed many works for piano, including the Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Ballades, Preludes, Waltzes and Etudes.
A Nocturne is a piece of music either depicting the dreamy atmosphere of night time, or intended to be performed at night.
Chopin's music was very distinctive in it's use of delicate fast runs of notes, chromaticism, rubato and haunting melodies.
