Gnossienne No.2 was written by French composer Erik Satie who lived from 1866 to 1925. Satie wrote six pieces with the title "Gnossienne".  I have also recorded Gnossienne No. 1 and no. 3.

In most of the compositions of this set, Satie has left out bar lines and time signature, implying freedom from structure, and a movement away from defined meter. Satie has also demonstrated development of harmonies away from the traditions of the Romantic, Classical and Baroque eras. All the while, he maintains a simplicity and clarity of sound which add to the feeling of stillness, wonder and mystery.
