When you choose correspondence lessons, I aim to send feedback and new assignments within 2 to 3 working days of receiving your work, depending on the day of the week.
Video & email exchange piano lessons
Receive a half hour long lesson's worth of tuition.
£16.50 GBP per lesson, pay as you go.
What you get: You send me your practice video(s) for feedback and critique. These videos only need to be short, but I will take my time creating a response and ensure that you receive valuable tuition. I send a video/email response. I respond with advice on how to practise and progress further, and I answer any questions. (Alternatively we may start with an instruction video sent from me to you.) My response may include: demonstrations and instructions for any exercises that may be appropriate for helping you move forward; and/or a break down of problem areas with demonstrations and/or descriptive instructions; and/or demonstrations of how you can improve specific passages of music. I will address any specific problems you are having.
This email exchange constitutes one lesson.
What to send me:
In order to make your correspondence lesson comparable to a standard in-person lesson, I take into account the amount of time I spend watching your videos, answering your questions, typing responses, and creating video responses/demonstrations etc. To receive an appropriate amount of tuition from me, and to allow time for me to review your videos and any questions you have: Aim to send me approximately 2 short videos of less than 5 minutes each, or one longer video, or any similar quantity (e.g. 3 or 4 extra short videos). (If your videos are shorter than 5 minutes each, this gives me more time to create video responses and instructions during the amount of lesson time you have paid me for. If your videos reach the maximum allowed length, I will have less time to prepare instructions along with feedback for you, so will have to adjust the amount of tuition you receive accordingly.) So, this means you may be working on two short pieces/studies; or one short piece plus a couple of scales/exercises; or one longer piece; or any similar combination. If you require more tuition than this per week, we can discuss your options.
You can have lessons in this way as frequently or infrequently as you like, subject to availability,
If you choose to have lessons in this way on a regular schedule -
What you get: A new assignment every week or fortnight, and feedback on your previous week's assignment. The assignment is tailored to your specific needs. It could include a new piece of music with a video demonstration (as needed), sheet music (as needed) and instructions; and/or a study/technical exercise, again with demonstration, sheet music and instructions; and/or a music theory exercise. The new assignment for the week may include instruction on how to continue practising and improving a piece of music that you started the previous week or are working on over a longer period. One lesson is one email exchange (including any videos and documents we exchange within that email), and I aim to give you the same amount of tuition I give during a traditional half hour in-person lesson. I have extensive experience of teaching piano lessons in person to many students over the years, as well as online, and I am a very good judge of what quantity of files and instructions to send each week in order to ensure the student learns the same amount (or more) as what they would learn in an average weekly in-person lesson.
