The German title of this piece - Fröhlicher Landmann von Der Arbeit Zurückkehrend translates as “The Merry Farmer, Returning from Work”. It is no. 10 from a selection of pieces called Album für die Jugend, Op. 68. - or Album for the Young.
In this piece, the melody is mainly in the left hand, so care needs to be taken to bring out the left hand and avoid drowning it out with the right hand chords. The lively, cheerful and bold character of this music is apt for the subject of the title.
