Felix Mendelssohn was a German composer and pianist of the Romantic era. He wrote 48 piano pieces entitled Liede Ohne Worte, or Songs Without Words, and this piece is one of them. The Songs Without Words are characterised by their lyrical and expressive nature, and understated simplicity. This particular piece is in A minor - you can find out more about minor keys here.
