PDF download of flashcards for naming intervals on the piano keyboard.
These flash cards are for piano students learning about intervals. The object is to name the interval shown by the coloured keys in each picture. This is good for helping piano students to start to quickly recognise what each interval looks like on the piano, and thus find the notes more easily when learning new pieces of music. E.g. if a new piece of music contains lots of intervals of a 5th: if the student has practised recognising 5ths on the piano keyboard, he or she will be better able to find the right notes. The student can start to make associations between certain patterns in the sheet music notation and certain shapes on the piano keyboard. This is even better when used in combination with practising naming intervals on sheet music.
This set of flash cards is suitable for both children and adults who are in the early stages of piano learning. Best used under the guidance of a tutor.
The PDF consists of four pages, with 40 intervals to work out, all on white keys of the piano. Use the picture previews above to see what the flash card sheets look like.
These flash cards can also be used for practising note naming, in order to increase familiarity with the letter names of the white keys on the piano, if the student is not yet at the stage of understanding intervals.
To make up the flash cards, print the PDF onto A4 paper, then cut out.
